Older Adult Program
Two Unique Programs To Enrich Your Life!
In an effort to become an important center of older adult education
in the West Valley two unique programs, the Pierce College ENCORE
Program and OASIS, a national nonprofit educational organization,
are offered to enrich your life. The ENCORE and OASIS programs
provide volunteer opportunities and educational, cultural and
wellness programming for older adults on the beautiful Pierce
College campus.
What is
ENCORE?
|
The
Encore Program is composed of noncredit classes without
required texts, exams, or term papers to write. The
program is designed to offer lifelong education that
will provide opportunities for personal growth and
development, survival skills needed for self-maintenance,
and economic self-sufficiency. The college offers
a variety of ENCORE classes, ranging from art
and music appreciation to learning how to use the
internet. Physical Education, Music,
Art, and Literature are among the course offerings. |
What is OASIS?
|
OASIS is a
non-sectarian program of Jewish Family Service of
Los Angeles, is a national education organization
dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for mature
adults. Classes are open to all people regardless
of income, sex, race, religion or background.
With challenging programs in the Arts, Humanities,
Wellness, Technology and Volunteer service, OASIS
creates opportunities for older adults to continue
their personal growth and service to the community. OASIS is sponsored by
Jewish Family Services, Macy's Foundation,
City of Los Angeles Department of Aging. |

ENCORE/OASIS faculty and staff define our unique
learning environment. When you add the outstanding
people of Pierce College to its spacious 400 acre

students each semester.

DIRECTIONS to Lot 1: From
Winnetka, turn in the campus on Calvert (Brahma). The
first right will place you in lot 1. Lot 1 is across
from the tennis courts.
DIRECTIONS to Lot 6:
From Victory,
turn on Mason (light). Continue all the way up the
hill. Lot 6 will be on your left by the Music and
Theatre buildings.
DIRECTIONS to Lot 7:
From Victory,
turn on Mason (light). Inside campus, turn left
at the stop sign, Olympic Drive. Lot 7 is on the left.
PARKING FOR OFFICE AND CLASSES
Check campus map to choose the parking lot most convenient
for you. First two digits of room numbers signify building
number. Ex. Rm 1412 is located in building 14.
PARKING PERMITS:
Parking permits ($5 fee per year; displayed on rear
view mirror, per printed instructions) are required
at all times when using campus parking lots, Monday
through Friday. Parking permits may be purchased
at the time of registration, or at the ENCORE/OASIS
office. Checks payable to Pierce College.

CLIMATE CONTROL
A central generator controls the air conditioning at Pierce College. We recommend dressing in layers.
TELL US HOW WE’RE DOING!
ENCORE/OASIS staff and sponsors value your opinions about our
classes. Please provide us with feedback by completing class
evaluation forms that are available in some classes and the office.
Suggestions for upcoming classes are also welcomed. Use the suggestion box located in the ENCORE/OASIS lobby in Bungalow
0399, or you can mail them to our office.

Please notify our office by phone (818) 710-2561
as soon as you know you are unable to attend a course or event
you have registered for. This then allows us to notify the
next person on the wait list so that they can attend and enjoy
the class in your place. |
