James
Couch took over as head coach of Pierce's outstanding
women's basketball team in 1997 after 16 years as head
coach of the girls' basketball team at Bellarmine-Jefferson
High School in Burbank. While at Bellarmine-Jefferson,
the Los Angeles Times selected Couch as its "Coach
of the Year" in 1993 and 1997. In addition, Couch
has been a cross-country and track and field coach at
the high school level for 27 years. Couch attends several
clinics each year, including the Nike Basketball Coaches
Clinic and the Southern California All-Sports Clinics.
Each year, Couch assists with Youth American Round Ball
Leagues.

Pat
Grennan :: Softball
A
successful coach in the high school ranks, Pat Grennan
took on the challenge of coaching at the community college
level in 1999. Before coming to Pierce, Grennan spent
five years as varsity softball coach at Agoura High
School and eight years as a coach in the Westlake/Agoura
Softball League. Each year, Grennan attends the Orange
County Softball Coaches Clinic, one of the premier clinics
in Southern California. Grennan and his players are
proud to participate in organizations for the homeless.
Bob
Lofrano ::
Athletic Director
Bob
Lofrano has guided one of the most successful programs
on campus since 1990. Before coming to Pierce, Lofrano
enjoyed many successful years as
Baseball Coach at Chatsworth
High School. An outstanding second baseman for the Brahmas,
Lofrano played on a Pierce infield that included future
major leaguers Doug DeCinces and Rick Auerbach. As Pierce's
coach, Lofrano has guided the Brahmas to
eight Western
State Conference titles. In addition, Lofrano's teams
reached the state playoffs seven times in an eight-year
period, from 1991-98. Also, appeared in State Playoffs
in 2000, 2003 2006 and 2007. In 1992, he led the team to the state
final four. He is currently also a professor in the men's
Physical Education department while
serving as Athletic Director.
Joe
Arnold :: Baseball Coach
Joe
Arnold has served as assistant baseball coach at Pierce
for the past 13 years helping guide the Brahmas to 5
Western States Championships, while also working
professionally as a teacher and evaluator in the
baseball industry. He graduated from Reseda High School
Class of '89. He attended Pierce College in 1990,
playing in 1991 and 1992, winning back to back
Conference Championships. He played in the regional
finals in 1991 and state finals, finishing 3rd in 1992;
the only team to play in the state baseball finals in
school history. He received all conference, all state
and all American honors, while being named Conference
and Southern California player of the year in 1992.
He
then played baseball on scholarship at CSUN in 1993 and
1994, playing in the Arizona State Regional in 1993. He
went on to play two seasons professionally in the
independent Prairie League in 1995 and Western Baseball
league in 1996, winning the Prairie Championship with
the Regina Cyclones in1995.
He
currently lives in North Hills with his wife Danica and
daughter Lily.

Nabil
Mardini :: Women's Volleyball
Nabil
Mardini just finished his eighth season as the head
coach at Pierce College for the Women's Volleyball Program.
In his first two seasons, he turned the program around
by taking the Brahmas from last place in the Western
State Conference to its first conference title (2001)
since 1980. For the first time in the program history,
the Brahmas made the Elite Eight Tournament in 2004
and finished the season ranked 5th in the State of California.
In 2005, his team finished the season with a record
of 23-4, winning the conference for the FIFTH straight
year and finished ranked FOURTH in the State of California.
In 2006, he led his team to an impressive record of
27-5, winning the Western State Conference for the sixth
straight year and made it all the way to the State Championship
Final Match. His team finished as the State Runner-up
behind Orange Coast College. In his eight years at Pierce
College, he has collected an impressive record of 117
wins to 26 losses.
He
was named the Western State Conference (South) Coach
of the Year in 2001, 2004, and 2006.
Nabil
Mardini is the director of the Santa Monica Beach Club
for the past eleven years. Under his guidance, the club
was named seventh in Southern California (the most competitive
volleyball region in the nation) by prepvolleyball.com.
In 1998, he helped coach the SMBC boys 17-1 team win
a gold medal in the 'Junior Nationals'.
Prior
to coming to the United States, Nabil had a very successful
career as a member of his hometown semi-professional
club team, "Club Relevement Social Knat".
He was selected to play for the Junior National Team
of Lebanon at the age of 15.
In
the United States, Nabil played two years for Santa
Monica College. In 1996, he was voted MVP and "Athlete
of the Year" for Santa Monica College.
Nabil
Mardini earned his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
in 1997 from the University of California Los Angeles.
Adolfo
Perez is a graduate of Birmingham High School and Cal
State Northridge. At CSUN he earned his mark as an aggressive
midfielder, a trait still reflected in his coaching
style. After college he played professionally in Guadalajara,
Mexico while earning his "A" coaching license. Upon
his return to Southern California he coached in the
Junior College (Mission College - 1995/96) and high
school (El Camino Real - 1994) systems. He has coached
extensively at the highest levels of club soccer. His
LA Force Girls U19 team, which played in the Premier
Division of Coast Soccer League, won the State Championship
in 2000, and his current LA Force Girls U17 team (also
CSL Premier) won the State Cup Open Championship in
1998. Adolfo's teams play with great intensity, a reflection
of his work ethic and dedication. With his experience
and expertise he has developed a Pierce College Women's
team that can compete at the highest level.
Since the program's inception in 2001 he has lead
his teams to 4 WSC Championships and accomplished an
incredible overall record of 107-17-18.
Coach
Rajeev Datt is an alumnus of LA Pierce College, who
played for the recently deceased Paul J. Xanthos, on
one of many of Xanthos' championship teams. After playing
for Xanthos, he secured a tennis scholarship for himself
at California State University Los Angeles. Coach Datt
has been involved in teaching tennis for eighteen years
now and has had the opportunity to work with such coaches
as: Robert Lansdorp, Bil McClain (former coach at SMU),
Anand Amritraj, and Billy Martin (current coach at UCLA),
amongst others. Due to being exposed to such great tennis
minds from varying generations, Coach Datt is bringing
a fresh approach to coaching tennis at LA Pierce College.
His intention is to mesh tradition with the newer coaching
techniques in training student athletes, not only to
excel on the court, but in the classroom as well.

Fred
Shaw :: Men's and Women's
Swimming
Fred
Shaw spent four years as a member of the University
of Southern California swim team, where he helped lead
the Trojans to the NCAA Division I championship. Shaw
became Pierce Collegeís swimming coach in 1992 and in
1994, was honored as the Western State Conference Men's
Swim Coach of the Year and the California Community
College Men's Swim Coach of the Year. Shaw is a member
of the Masters Aquatic Coaches Association and the California
Community College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association.
Each year, Shaw helps to raise money for the Pierce
College Pool, one of the finest public facilities in
the San Fernando Valley.

Eddie
Stanislawski:: Men's Volleyball Coach
Eddie
was an all-league/MVP player for St. Francis High School
in La Canada graduating in 1991. He played at Pierce
College from 1998 to 2000, helping the team win the
2000 California State College Championship. For his
efforts, Eddie received 1st-team All-League honors.
He went on to graduate for Cal State Northridge majoring
in Kinesiology (emphasis in Exercise Science) in 2002.
Upon his graduation he was accepted at the Southern
California University of Health Science where he will
be receiving his Doctorate of Chiropractics in December
of 2006 with an emphasis in sports performance and medicine.
While working on his doctorate he has also received
mutiple certifications including CSCS (Certified strength
and Conditioning Specialist), ACE (American Council
on Exercise), and IMPACT (Increased Mastery and Professional
Application of Coaching Theory). Eddie was the first
assistant for the men's volleyball program at Santa
Monica College for the 2002-2003 season. He has also
coached for the SMBC Volleyball Club for the past two
seasons.
Ed
Babayan joined the Pierce Men's Basketball Staff in its first
season in 2002. Before joining the Pierce staff, Ed was a
very successful high school coach at AGBU-Demirdjian High
School for four years as the boys and girls basketball coach.
He was an assistant coach at Pierce for 2 years before taking
over as Head Coach at the start of the 2004-2005 season. He
has worked very hard to restore the Men's Basketball program
back to its glory days of old.
His
objective is to improve each player's basketball skills and
monitor their academic progress, so that they have the potential
to obtain a scholarship. His hard work has translated into
14 of 15 transfer-eligible players successfully transferring
to four year universities on scholarship during his tenure
as head coach.
