1. MURF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWS

The MURF program aims to increase the participation of underrepresented students (such as African American, Hispanic, and Native American,females who are underrepresented in their discipline, and first-generation college students) in science and engineering Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. programs and to make Caltech's programs more visible to students not traditionally exposed to Caltech.
Eligibility: Students must be current sophomores through non-graduating seniors and must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Support: MURF students will receive a $6000 award for the ten-week program. Additional housing and travel support may be provided.
Application: Online applications are due January 12, 2011, but it is updated yearly. Keep checking for the new due date.
2. Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program

This undergraduate internship is a 12 week program for 5-10 outstanding minority and underrepresented students interested in pursuing a career in biomedical related sciences.
Students must: be low income or underrepresented minority, freshman, sophmore or junior, 3.0 GPA or higher, successfully completed genetics, molecular biology cell biology and introductory chemistry.
Application due February 1, 2012.

INSET 2012 Program Dates: June 18th - August 10th, 2012
This undergraduate research program is open to any science or engineering undergraduate student who meets all of the following requirements
Is currently enrolled at a community college in California
High School Seniors graduating in June 2011, starting community college in Fall 2011, are ineligible
Is a US citizen or permanent resident
Has satisfied the following course/unit requirements: (1 semester unit = 1.5 quarter units)
Completed a minimum of 12 semester units in science engineering, and/or social science courses
Completed or currently enrolled in a minimum of 4 semester units of Calculus

The application for Summer 2012 will be posted in January 2012. The personal statement will change a bit from last summer’s application.
Applications are now being accepted for summer 2012. The deadline is November 15, 2011, 11:59 p.m., EST.
The DOE Scholars Program offers internships, fellowships, and scholarships that prepare students for careers with the U.S. Department of Energy.
To qualify for the DOE Scholars Program, you will need to meet the following eligibility criteria:
- U.S. citizenship (no exceptions).
- Undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate of an accredited institute of higher education. Exceptions may be made on academic status on a case-by-case basis for summer appointments only.
5. NNIN REU Program
Application due February 15, 2012 by 5PM PST
The chosen undergraduates taking part in this ten-week program will receive hands-on nanoscience and technology experience through research, with applications to bio-engineering, chemistry, electronics, materials science, optics, optoelectronics,
physics, and the life sciences. We will also host a small number of projects studying the social and ethical issues (SEI) of nanotechnology. The SEI projects are well suited to communications majors, as well as science majors.

6. Penn State Summer Research
Application due February 29, 2012
With funding from the National
Science Foundation and the 3M Foundation, students will work for ten
weeks on chemical research with an outstanding group of research
mentors conducting an independent project.
In addition to a generous stipend, we will provide convenient and
comfortable on-campus housing and reimbursement for travel costs.

7. David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA Enrichment Opportunities
The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is currently accepting applications for the following summer academic enrichment programsfor 2012:
· Premedical/Predental Enrichment Program (PREP)
· Summer Medical Dental Education Program (SMDEP)
· ReApplication Post baccalaureate Program (RAP)
PREP is a seven week summer academic enrichment program that targets students from educationally and financially disadvantaged/underrepresented backgrounds. Students are exposed to the rigors of academic medicine and/or dentistry. Included are preceptor ships with physicians in clinical and research settings. The program is enhanced by students being mentored in intimate, structured cluster groups by trained teaching assistants; accomplished medical students. The program is free, however housing is not provided. A stipend is given to students for living expenses. The postmark deadline for submission of all required material is March 1, 2012. This national program is funded through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is offered at 12 locations. The program is free and provides on campus housing, and a small stipend. RAP is post baccalaureate program that is designed to assist students who meet all the following criteria: are California residents, from disadvantaged and or/underserved backgrounds, committed to practicing in underserved communities in California, and who applied but were unsuccessful in gaining admissions to any U.S. medical school. The eleven-month program is conducted in two sessions, summer and academic year. Deadline is May 15, 2012. 8. Pepperdine University Summer Undergraduate Research in Biology (SURB)

Research areas include plant ecology, cell biology, genetics, developmental biology and animal physiology. Students work full time and are provided with free housing on campus at Pepperdine University, a generous stipend, and support for travel expenses.
