REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
- The application will be accepted after all prerequisite course work has been completed.
- Submit one set of official transcripts of required academic course work from all colleges attended, including LAPC. These must be submitted to the Nursing Department along with your application.
- If you have completed required prerequisites within LACCD’s nine colleges, you only need to submit one set of official transcripts from each college attended to the Nursing Department. For a complete list of LACCD colleges, please go to www.lacolleges.net.
- If required prerequisites were completed outside LACCD, one additional set of official transcripts from each of the colleges attended must be mailed to LAPC Graduation Office. Do not mail transcripts from LACCD colleges to Graduation Office. LACCD students are exempt from this requirement
- Course Equivalency Form: Prerequisite courses taken outside of the Los Angeles Community College District must be evaluated by Pierce Counseling Office. Contact the Counseling Department at (818) 719-6440 or go to www.piercecollege.edu to schedule an appointment for a course equivalency evaluation. Form must be submitted by March 16, 2012
- TEAS V – Test of Essential Academic Skills: All students are required to take TEAS V Test. This assessment measures basic skills in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science, English and Language Usage. The TEAS is a 170 – item, multiple choice exam, lasting 3 to 4 hours and given in paper and pencil format. TEAS V test is offered at Pierce College yearly in March. You can make an appointment to take the test during the application period. Prepare for this exam by utilizing the work-study book (TEAS V edition). Go to www.atitesting.com or ask for available books at our department.

*Students who can demonstrate successful completion of one year of high school Chemistry (with lab) with a grade of C or better are exempt from this prerequisite. Must submit official copy of high school transcript to meet this requirement.
** A combined Anatomy/Physiology course of 8 units with lab may be substituted.
***One course in Elementary Algebra or successful completion of competency exam is a prerequisite for the program. Math 115 or higher will meet this requirement. Math 125 is required for graduation and for transfer to a baccalaureate program in Nursing. Please see a Pierce counselor for advisement.
SELECTION
Eligible applicants are selected for the program by random lottery and will be notified by email. All applicants must provide a valid email address.
To be eligible for the lottery, the applicant must:
- Have an overall GPA of 2.5 in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology, with no grade less than “C” in any one of these courses and no more than one repetition of any of these courses.
- Have a grade of “C” or better for all other prerequisite courses. Be in good academic standing and not be on academic or progress probation.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the prerequisite classes, excluding Chemistry and Math.

Additional Graduation Requirements:
- General Education Requirements: All students must complete a pattern of general education coursework. Nursing students may follow Plan B, C or D as stated in the Pierce Catalogue. Please consult a Pierce counselor to determine the best plan for you
- Graduation Competency in Math and English. Students will meet the English competency requirement by completing English 101. Students must meet with a Pierce counselor to determine Math competency satisfaction.
- Complete one of the following Speech courses: Speech 101, 102, 104, 121. This course may also be used to fulfill a general education requirement. For information concerning course planning, contact the Counseling Department at (818) 719-6440
