Academic Deans

The role of the dean is not easily definable. Academic deans of today have a much wider range of responsibilities than in the past and the focus of the position has moved towards administrative obligations.

The dean is usually seen as having the ability to be a leader. As a leader the dean needs to perform service, be accountable, fulfill a moral role, build trust, and promote excellence.

An academic dean is responsible for monitoring your academic progress, articulting and enforcing the academic rules and regulations, and assisting you when you have academic questions or concerns.

Highlight of Academic Dean's Duties.

• Manager, supervisor, leader, decision-maker, and train division chairs
• Supervise faculty and staff
• Prepare and oversee department's budget
• Communication - communicates, and coordinates activites with outside groups
• Faculty Affairs - coordinator, peacemaker, reduce, resolve, and prevent conflict among faculty and staff members
• Office Manager - supervises and evaluates clerical and technical staff in division
• Professional Development - lead, facilitate, and monitor as appropriate professional development activities

Like all undergraduate students, you have an academic dean who is responsible for monitoring your academic progress, articulating and enforcing the academic rules and regulations, and assisting you when you have academic questions or concerns.
