Counseling Services
Academic
The purpose of academic advisement is to provide students with the information and knowledge that is needed to make educated decisions about the future. Plan to meet with a counselor at least once a semester
Counseling can help you:
- Clarify your values and goals.
- Make an academic plan that takes into account your personal needs and situation.
- Monitor your progress.
- Assist in understanding general education requirements in preparation for transfer to a 4-year institution.
- Understand Associate Degree and Certificate Programs.
- Develop a student Education Plan (SEP) - also required to maintain eligibility for financial aid.
- Evaluate previous coursework completed at other colleges/universities.
- Interpret articulation agreements with other colleges and universities.
- Become aware of support services available on campus.
Career Planning and Counseling
The Counseling Department offers a range of services to Pierce students related to major and career choice through the Transfer and Career Center. These services include:
- Career Planning courses (personal development 4 and 8)
- Individual career counseling appointments
- Assessment of your values, interest, personality type and skills
- Computer-aided guidance tools such as EUREKA and Plan ED.
- A library of career-related materials and reference works.

The student health fee entitles you to request the services of an on-campus psychologist for a limited number of sessions at no additional cost. The process begins at the Student Health Center for screening and scheduling an appointment.
Students may also use the services of the Counseling office to assist in identifying the problem, stabilizing the situation when possible and exploring appropriate on-campus and off-campus resources. Short term personal counseling is available for students whose problems are interfering with academic, career and / or social functioning. Examples of concerns are depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, sexual abuse, relationship issues, eating disorders and sexual identity.
Services are available by scheduling an appointment or, in an emergency, dropping by the counseling office.

Athletic Counseling
Student athletes are encouraged to meet with the Athletics Counselor (Student Services Building, 1st floor) to discuss course planning and eligibility requirements. Click here for more information from the Athletics counselor.
Veterans of the U.S. Armed Services coming to Pierce College to begin or continue their education will find everything they need to support them in achieving their goal.
Services for U.S. Veterans:
