WELCOME TO PIERCE
As a member of the Los Angeles Community College District, the largest community college district in California, Pierce College enjoys an excellent reputation and is pursued by students from all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life:
According to the Pierce College Office of Institutional Research, as of Fall 2009, 55% of our students are Female, 45% Male; 35% of all students are under 20 years old, 33% between 20-24, 17% between 25-34; and 15% are over 35 years old. Approximately 59% of our students are White; 31% are Latino; 16% Asian; 6% African-American; 3% are multi-ethnic; and 4% are other non-white. The primary language spoken by 79% of students is English, followed by 8% Spanish, 5% Farsi, 1% Armenian, 1% Russian, 1% Tagalog, and 5% Other.
[Fall 2008 figures were as follows: Approximately 55% of our students were women; 35% of all students were under 20, with a majority, 32% of those, between the ages of 20-24; 17% between 25-34; and, 16% were 35 and over. The primary language spoken by 77% of students is English, followed by 9% Spanish, 5% Farsi, 2% Armenian, 1% Tagalog (Filipino), and 7% Other (Includes Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Vietnamese and Other languages.). The largest ethnic group is Caucasian, White, including Europeans, Russians, and Middle Easterners, followed by Latinos which includes Mexican, Central, South Americans and other Hispanics; Asians, including Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Korean, and Vietnamese; and, Blacks, African-American.]
This site represents an array of programs, activities, and events that are meant to enhance students' awareness and appreciation of diversity in all that our world has to offer, including an appreciation of the many cultures, life-choices, politics, and experiences contained within it.
