Pierce Diversity Committee (PDC)

Established in 2007 by the Office of College Compliance, the PDC is a committee composed of a diverse membership consisting of administrators, faculty, staff, and student members.
Our mission is to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of equity and diversity throughout our college community. The committee seeks to accomplish its mission by recommending, developing, planning, and implementing programs, services, and activities that expose our college community to diverse cultures and ethnicities, lifestyles, backgrounds, genders and ages, and political, religious and intellectual points of view.
The PDC's first annual film festival “Celebrating Diversity” was held April 23-27, 2007. The Festival featured major contemporary films, as well as, independent films and documentaries that exposed students to diverse issues. The movie “CRASH” was showcased on the last day of the Festival which included a student awards presentation for entries in the categories of short film, poetry, and photography. The second annual film festival, "Doc Fest" was held in April 2008. This festival featured documentaries that exposed students to a broad array of important contemporary issues, including the continuing war in Iraq, our obsession with beauty, the conflicts of gay lifestyles in a jewish community, and the state of our health care system. This year's festival, "Change We Need" will feature a combination of films and documentaries focusing on current concerns and controversies, including war, energy, and the economic crisis starting with the collapse of our financial institutions.
Together with the Associated Students Organization, the PDC sponsors events throughout the year, including celebrations during Hispanic Heritage Month and Black History Month. This year with the election of the first African-American President, the Black History Month event on February 25, 2009, entitled, "The Road to the White House" features historical figures and events through documentaries screened inside The Great Hall in the Student Community Center. Everyone from the college community is invited to attend for food, commentary and lots of fun.
Thank you for visiting.
