Transfer Center 101: Getting Started
- Being a transfer student means that you are beginning your bachelor's degree at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC).
- As a transfer student, you will be continuing your education at a four-year college or university, usually after completing at least 60 transferable units at community college.
- When planned correctly, the courses that you pass at community college count towards your bachelor’s degree, just as if they had been taken at a four-year college or university.
- Where do you wish to transfer to?
- Select 3-5 campuses at minimum to plan for and apply to. Go to "How to Choose a Transfer University" for suggested direction.
- What will you major in?
- Study what you enjoy learning
- Take a variety of General classes to explore majors
- Take a Counseling course
- Meet with a Career Counselor
- Attend Career Center workshops
- Complete at least 60 transferrable units, consisting of:
- General Education Courses
- Complete the California State University (CSU) GE Plan (for transfer to a CSU campus), IGETC Education Plan (for transfer to University of California (UC) or CSU campuses); or GE Plans specific to your chosen Private or Out-of-State University
- Major Preparation Courses
- Courses to prepare you for your major at your chosen CSU, UC, or Private or Out-of-State University

- General timeline calculation: Transferrable units (or total number of units to transfer, including remedial courses) divided by the number of units you take each semester = total number of semesters; (ex. 60 transferrable units divided by 12 units taken per semester = 5 total semesters)

- Guaranteed admission to one of six UC campuses (Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside,

3.0 High school GPA or earn a 3.25 GPA, after completing 9 units at LAPC
15 units of Honors Transfer Program coursework required to be certified
