1)  Your class(es) from Pierce College Summer Session B, which was to begin July 27, will automatically be dropped; you do not need to drop them.

2)  Summer A is still in effect and classes will begin as scheduled on June 22. This includes both five- and eight-week classes that begin in Session A.

3)  To obtain a refund for Summer B classes already paid, please visit the Business Office in the College Services Building.

4)  If you enrolled in any class that was a prerequisite for any course you have signed up for this Fall, you should drop the Fall course and try to enroll in the prerequisite course for Fall semester. Classes that require prerequisites are clearly marked in the schedule with “Proof of Eligibility must be on file at the Assessment Center.”

5)  If you have concerns about your academic progress, please visit a counselor in person at the Counseling Office in the Administration Building. They will try to help you on an individual basis.

All nine colleges of the LACCD (www.laccd.edu) have been directed to cancel their July sessions.

We understand that this may cause a disruption in your academic plans and would like to help you stay on track.

Pierce College’s first Summer Session, “Summer A” will run as planned for all classes beginning the week of June 22, 2009, with 240 class sections.

The L.A. Community College District Board of Trustees voted on May 27 to suspend summer sessions that begin after July 1 at all nine district colleges. This difficult decision was made in response to the unprecedented California state budget crisis bringing deep cuts to the community college system.

Students who have already paid for classes for Summer B and need a refund may visit the Business Office in the College Services Building.

Students who have concerns about their academic progress should contact a counselor by stopping by the Counseling Office in the Administration building.

Pierce College President Bob Garber is well aware of the critical consequences that may result for some individual students and said that he will work to find ways to help them.

“In every case, our goals are to keep access to educational opportunities for students and protect jobs for our faculty and staff,” he said.
