For the purposes of implementing this policy, the college may develop a policy to:
A student who no longer maintains catalog rights may apply to be awarded a certificate or degree that was completed while s/he maintained catalog rights. In such a case, it shall be awarded retroactively in the last term of the period in which the student maintained those rights in which the certificate or degree requirements were completed. The college's policy shall be developed in consultation with the college Academic Senate in accordance with the provisions of Chapter XVIII of the Board Rules - ACADEMIC SENATE AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHARED GOVERNANCE POLICY, and published in all college catalogs under appropriate headings. Veterans' Counseling
The veterans counselors in the Pierce Counseling Office work in partnership with the personnel in the Financial Aid/Veterans/Scholarship Office (Veterans Office) to ensure that you are making progress toward your academic goal in a manner that satisfies the requirements of the VA so that you receive your benefits in a timely manner.
To make your transition to Pierce College, we recommend you follow these steps:
(1) Visit the veterans desk in the Veterans Office(2nd floor of Student Services bldg) where you will be given a packet of materials- some of which you complete and some which you will complete with a VA counselor. View VA Website.
(2) Make an appointment with a veterans counselor. Bring your completed paperwork and any supporting documents such as transcript(s) with you. At this meeting, you will complete an Educational Plan which involves evaluating your previous education to determine if any can be applied to your current educational goal at Pierce College. Your Educational Plan will specify which courses are to be completed on our campus. The VA will only pay for the courses on the plan. The completed documents are to be returned to the Veterans Office. .There are no Veterans Counselors available after 4pm.
(3) Each semester after you have registered for classes have the Veterans Office sign-off on your schedule, signifying that the courses are consistent with the Educational Plan. You may do this by dropping in to the VA office.
You will only need to complete one Educational Plan for the duration of your stay at Pierce. However, if you change your educational goal you will also need to complete an new Educational Plan.
