Students New to College
If you have never taken college courses, follow the steps below to get started at Pierce College and register for classes.
- APPLY ONLINE
- APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
- COMPLETE ONLINE ORIENTATION
- TAKE ASSESSMENTS
- ATTEND A NEW STUDENT COUNSELING GROUP
You will need to provide personal information such as your address, phone number, social security number and educational goal.
Once you apply, you will receive a LACCD email address. All communication from Pierce College will be sent to your LACCD email address.
Approximately 3-5 working/business days after you submit your application, you will receive an email with your Pierce College Student ID number. You will need this number to access campus services such as assessment, counseling and health services.

Please log into the student portal to complete the orientation.
To register for your assessment exams, visit the Assessment Center webpage. You will need your Student ID number to register for the exam.
It is important to prepare for the exams as you can only take them once a calendar year and they determine which English and Math level you can register for. To prepare, you can look at our SAMPLE EXAMS.
Your assessment results will be available within 3 working days after you complete the exam. To view results, log-in to the Student Information System and click on View Placement
New Student Group Sessions are offered in the afternoons. Groups last approximately 90 minutes. During the New Student Group Session, you will get all the information you need to start your academic career right, including information on Majors, classes to take and how to plan your schedule. You will also create an initial student educational plan.

You MUST bring your assessment results with you to the New Student Group.
