APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

If you are a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen (Permanent Residents), you will complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are NOT a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen, you will need to complete the CA Dream Act application.

FAFSA Application Process

  1. Prior to applying for financial aid, visit www.studentaid.gov to obtain a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) so that you can electronically sign your application.
  2. Go to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Helpful Hint: Select IRS Data Retrieval Tool in order to expedite the processing of your financial aid file.
  3. Make sure you include Los Angeles Pierce College Federal School Code: 001226.

We recommend to complete the FAFSA application between October 1st and March 2nd prior to the start of the academic year (Fall Semester). Follow the key dates and timeline in the process:

  • Oct 1 - March 2: Financial aid priority application period
  • March 2: Deadline to apply for the Cal Grant Program
  • May 1: Priority deadline to submit required documentation to the Los Angeles Pierce College Financial Aid Office
  • September 2: Extended competitive Cal Grant deadline for CA community college students

The priority application deadline is established to encourage early application for financial aid. Students who have missed the priority date of March 2nd may still apply as funds may still be available. Students who want to apply for limited funding programs (such as Federal Work-Study and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant) are encouraged to complete the FAFSA between October 1 and March 2 and submit required documents to complete their financial aid file by May 1st priority deadline.

CA Dream Application Process

Students who are not US Citizens, not a Permanent Resident, or have been determined as AB540 should complete the CA Dream Application (NOT the FAFSA).

  1. Go to the CA Dream Act application website to apply for California financial aid.
  2. Make sure you include Los Angeles Pierce College Federal School Code: 001226.

Student should complete the CA Dream Act application before March 2nd prior to the start of the academic year.

What happens after FAFSA or CA Dream Application submission

Once you have submitted your FAFSA, you will receive your results (known as the Student Aid Report) from the Federal Processor. Helpful Hint: Your SAR will indicate your estimated EFC is and if you were selected for verification.

You will then receive communication via email to provide you with next steps. Please note that we will use the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) assigned email.

Logon to the Student Information System (SIS) then on the same browser, go to https://piercecollege.verifymyfafsa.com. Any required documents you need to complete will be displayed. From the piercecollege.verifymyfafsa.com website, you complete required forms online and upload any supporting documents. Complete online forms and upload documents by the May 1st priority deadline.

Once all required documentation has been submitted and uploaded, we will conduct a thorough review of your file for discrepancies.

Your financial aid package will be posted in your student portal.

Financial Aid Refunds will occur during the first week of fall semester assuming all eligibility requirements are met such as satisfactory academic progress and verification of enrollment. Otherwise, we continue to make disbursements throughout the semester on a regularly scheduled basis.
