Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) or the "college" F-1 Visa International Students are insured through a Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) mandated policy offered by LewerMark 1-800-821-7710.
The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is designed to cover most medical expenses in case of accident and/or illness. Certain exceptions may apply. Coverage periods for Fall/Winter semesters are Aug. 15-Jan. 31, and for Spring/Summer semesters, Feb. 1-Aug. 14. An insurance representative provides information about coverage during the mandatory orientation for new international students.
The cost for a 6-month period of coverage is US$678. Costs are subject to change. Students are automatically billed for health insurance upon enrollment every Fall and Spring semester, payable to the college. Purchasing this plan is for your protection since healthcare in the U.S. can be very costly without insurance. There are no waivers for the LACCD insurance policy (LACCD Board Rule 2309.30). Even if you have another form of health insurance, you will still be required to purchase college-issued medical insurance.
Once international student registration is verified by the College District, the student can obtain their insurance member ID card.
